The web team at Internet Archive launched the public website Archive-it that allows users to create, manage and search their own web archives through a web interface. The service as been developed, in particular, for memory institutions and state archives. IA has been testing and developing the application through
a pilot program which includes 13 other institutions, mainly Libraries and Archives, who are potential users of this service.
The collections developed through the pilot are all available for search and browse access through the public facing site, and information on the program, the pilot partners, how the application works is detailed on the site as well.
In 2001, I saved 7,000 3/4″ videotapes from a local television affiliate. Sadly, they had already destroyed their film library … Which contained invaluable footage from the Desegregation Crisis of 1957 in Little Rock, AR.
As an independent television producer/ director, I found the destruction of this archive to be inexcusable. Through a network of friends and events, I transported the 7,000 tapes to my basement, which is underground, and has a constant temperature. They are there today.
I am now semi- retired, and want to digitize these tapes. They encompass 1982-1994. Being from Little Rock, Arkansas, they include the rise of Bill and Hillary Clinton.
Could you please advise me about what resources would be helpful.
I am not wealthy, but have access to several 501c3 organizations that have supported my work as a filmmaker.
Thanks in advance for anything you can do to help me with these efforts.
With best wishes for the new year…
