Protect Our Future Memory: Advocating for Digital Rights in Special Collections
June 23 @ 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm
$125PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOP – RBMS (Rare Books & Manuscripts Section) CONFERENCE
Led by Lila Bailey (Internet Archive) and Michael Menna (Stanford University)—authors of the Statement on Digital Rights for Protecting Memory Institutions Online (available at Ourfuturememory.org)—this workshop will explore opportunities to safeguard the essential activities of libraries, archives, museums, and other memory institutions in today’s changing media environment. As more content is published and made available only on gated platforms in ephemeral formats, memory institutions’ mission to preserve culture and provide access to knowledge is under threat. By turning the Statement into a campaign to protect Our Future Memory, we can provide advocates a powerful tool to ensure that these institutions retain the same rights and responsibilities online that they have historically held offline.
This ticketed in-person workshop costs $125.
