Stereo Vision: The Art of 3-D Photography
July 22 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Free
The Internet Archive is excited to host The Golden Gate Stereoscopic Society as they share their most accomplished 3D photography and an in-depth workshop of 3D photography techniques.
Stereo photography — 3-D photography — is the marvelous craft of making pictures with the illusion of depth. The Golden Gate Stereoscopic Society presents an exhibition of fine art and experimental stereo photography by the Bay Area’s leading stereographers
Stereo photography is a technique both antique and modern. The principles of stereo vision were discovered before photography, and the earliest daguerreotypists experimented with stereo imagery. Modern practitioners of the craft work with sophisticated digital cameras but have a rich history to explore for inspiration.
We invite you to discover this astonishing medium and witness its creative applications.
This exhibition of stereo photography is projected on a screen (3-D glasses are provided) and is presented with commentary and critiques from Golden Gate Stereoscopic Society president and internationally recognized stereographer Mat Bergman. Featured stereographers in attendance will share their philosophy and answer questions.
Curious about how stereo photos are made? GGSS members will demonstrate cameras and methods to make, view, and share your own stereo photographs, while also highlighting instructional resources hosted on the Internet Archive.
The Golden Gate Stereoscopic Society is the San Francisco / Bay Area’s club for stereo photography enthusiasts. Founded as the Miniature Camera Club in 1934 and later known as the Oakland Camera Club, the GGSS endures today as an association of dedicated stereo photographers. The GGSS meets twice monthly on Zoom and encourages you to join (see the website for meeting and event schedules).
GGSS’ mission is to encourage and promote the art of stereo photography through the support of our community and outreach to the public. The Golden Gate Stereoscopic Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
